There will be two technical visits made during the conference. These are all optional visits and you are requested to note which visits you will attend on the registration form.
The Food Center Amsterdam (FCA) is the fresh produce wholesale market in, and for, Amsterdam and region. It provides for the needs of the retail and catering sectors, also supplying institutions and supermarkets. The market offers meat, poultry, game, fish, potatoes, vegetables, fruit and general food from both home and abroad, with the largest and most diverse assortment of fresh produce in the Netherlands. The FCA website contains information on the both the market and the companies based therein, as well as their products. A dynamic food center offering a great service for the professional food trader, the FCA can rightfully call itself the “Belly of Amsterdam”.
A marketplace, which in 2007 has been judged the Best Market of the Netherlands. It is located along one street – Dapperstraat, in East Amsterdam (Amsterdam Oost). This low cost area of the city attracts many newcomers - people from Suriname, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. The Dappermarkt being the local market reflects its public – energetic, hard working, exotic. At the end of 2007, Dappermarkt has been judged by the National Geographic Traveler as one of the Top 10 Shopping Streets in the World, just behind places of really world reputation as Grand Bazaar in Istanbul and Navigli Antique Market in Milan.
